Sep 30 - A series of tsunamis smashing into American and Western Samoa in the Pacific have killed possibly more than 100 people, according to officials. U.S. President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster in American Samoa, a U.S. territory, and ordered federal aid to help recovery efforts. A Pacific-wide tsunami warning was issued after a major undersea earthquake off American Samoa, with reports of a small tsunami reaching New Zealand and rising sea levels in several South Pacific island nations - including Tonga - and around Japan.
